The movie Angels and Demons, directed by Ron Howard and based on the bestselling novel by Dan Brown, is set to hit theaters in May 2009. The plot revolves around a canister of antimatter "a thousand times more powerful than nuclear energy", stolen from the international particle physics research facility called CERN with the intent to destroy the Vatican. This lecture will delve into the science behind Angels and Demons, providing an opportunity for the public to learn about the scientific research done at CERN and its impact on our understanding about the Universe. The lecture will be given by Louise Heelan, a graduate student at Carleton University working on the CERN experiment featured in the movie. |
